"A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone" -- Henry David Thoreau

The Ballona Wetlands

The Ballona Wetlands are one of only a few undeveloped wetland ecosystems remaining in Southern California. This area is also one of the last large open spaces left in Los Angeles and is home to more than 500 plant and animal species, including several which are threatened or endangered. Ballona provides a place of rest for birds traveling along the Pacific Migratory Pathway.

This fragile ecosystem is the proposed development site for a massive new city known as Play Vista. The proposed city would place 13,000 housing units, five million square feet of commercial space, a new marina, hotels, and a movie studio in and around Ballona Wetlands.

Fortunately there is still time to preserve this ecosystem. The developers do not have all of the environmental approvals and permits required. Community opposition is large and growing.

The Solution

For our children, preserve all of Ballona, help us realize a dream. We can all be part of REAL sustainable development. Help us create the Ballona Wetlands Wildlife Reserve and Park -- a legacy to be proud of. This is a choice future generations would thank and praise.
